The 2025 edition of the Crozon Foil Festival kicked off in spectacular fashion this Tuesday with the much-anticipated Downwind Foil Elite race. At sunrise, a breathtaking sky lit up the bay in front of the majestic three-masted ship Belem, signaling ideal conditions. As the morning progressed, the wind steadily built up, creating perfect gliding conditions for this professional World Tour event, one of six races on the international downwind foil circuit.
Before the race
After a 9:30 a.m. briefing at the port of Morgat, more than 60 male and female riders gathered from all over the world — Hawaii, Australia, Germany, the UK, South Africa, Belgium — and of course from every coastal region of France. Competitors then made their way to Pors Péron beach, the starting point of a 16 km downwind foil race ending in Pors Théolen. With a steady wind swell pushing from behind, athletes had to make smart equipment choices in what proved to be a physically demanding and technically challenging race.

A race that lived up to all expectations
Riders were dropped by boat at Pointe du Millier to position themselves at the starting line. Once aligned, they launched into a 16 km run — joined within the first few hundred meters by dolphins, making for a ride that was both magical and fast.
Very quickly, Australians Kai Thompson and Jarrod Snow took the lead, closely followed by Frenchman Tom Constant, who delivered an aggressive performance throughout. They maintained their positions all the way to the finish line, reaching top speeds of over 15 knots.

In the women’s division, Tahitian Naumi Eychenne dominated the course, ahead of Germany’s Marnie Bertram. A special mention goes to local athlete Anaïs Guyomarc’h, a multiple-time national and international champion in stand up paddle, who confirmed her place among the world elite in SUP Foil Downwind.

A finish full of smiles
The day ended with shared joy and satisfaction after experiencing a world-class race in ideal conditions. All participants gathered afterward in Morgat for the official opening aperitif, where each participating nation was introduced and celebrated. It was also a chance to regroup and prepare for the next challenge: the Surf Foil event, scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. on La Palue beach.

In conclusion
After several national and international events impacted by tricky wind conditions, this race stands out as one of the best downwind SUP foil events of the year. This success confirms Brittany’s status as a worthy World Cup destination, and cements the Crozon Foil Festival’s position on the global downwind foil calendar.
Now, it’s time to focus on another international discipline: Surf Foil.
